TomTom 1, 3, 920?

TomTom has announced a new TomTom GO 920, the big brother to the GO 720. In addition to the Map Share technology for instant map updates, the GO 920 is compatible with RDS-TMC traffic; in fact, the TomTom GO 920T package will include this receiver. The other major feature is the addition of Voice Recognition: TomTom claims that the GO 920 will be the first portable GPS unit that will accept voice commands for address entry. This one-ups the Magellan Maestro 4050, which only accepts voice commands for menu functions.

TomTom has also announced a new ONE, the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition. It has a map upgrade and is compatible with the Map Share application, as well as RDS-TMC traffic compatibility.

New Nuvi 750/760/770

Garmin has announced a new nuvi 700 line. The nuvi 700 series are pretty much similar to the 600 series but slightly slimmer and with multiple-point routing (finally!). The nuvi 750 is the base model; the nuvi 760 has Bluetooth and comes with an integrated traffic receiver; and the nuvi 770 is similar to the 760 but adds pre-loaded maps of Europe as well as North America. The 700 series are also compatible with both regular GTM traffic services and the new MSN Direct service, via an accessory receiver. Does this mean that Garmin's already giving up on MSN Direct, or are they trying to gauge interest? We'll find out soon enough. The multiple-point routing is something that should've been in the nuvi series from the output; Garmin finally listened to the customers on this one.
