New Stuff

Some new products announced today on Tiger GPS:  the Magellan Maestro 3100 and Maestro 3140 and the TomTom ONE XL.

The new Magellan Maestro 3100 and Maestro 3140 are basically baby versions of the Maestro 4000 series.  They will replace the RoadMate 2000 and 2200T.  The Maestro 3100 is a low-frills, low-feature navigator with map coverage only of the continental United States and a mere 750K POIs.  The Maestro 3140 is finally Magellan's answer to the Garmin nuvi 360.  The new higher-end Magellans feature AAA coverage for diamond ratings and a guide to where the discounts are, which is nice for AAA members.  Too bad it's on Magellan's inferior interface.

The other new announcement today was the TomTom ONE XL.  It's just a wider-screen version of the popular ONE.  TomTom wins the award for worst product name, hands down.  First there was the TomTom ONE, then the TomTom ONE v2; then the revamped TomTom ONE Europe, TomTom ONE Regional, and TomTom ONE North America; and now the TomTom ONE XL Europe, TomTom ONE XL Regional, and TomTom ONE XL North America.  What a load of TomTom TWO.
